The Vancouver Giants started paring down their bevy of medium-sized forwards on Thursday, shipping left winger Tristan Sieben to the Kamloops Blazers for a 2016 seventh-round bantam pick.
The Giants landed the 5-foot-9, 187-pound left-handed shot from the Edmonton Oil Kings last September for a 2014 sixth-round selection.
The Giants were keen on Sieben’s work ethic and his winning pedigree from Edmonton. They are loaded with guys of similar size and skill set — Anthony Ast, Carter Popoff, Joel Hamilton, Alec Baer and Ty Ronning come to mind.
Sieben had six goals and 15 points, along with a minus-21 rating and 23 penalty minutes, in 60 games with Vancouver last season.
The swap is the 10th between the Giants and Blazers since Craig Bonner joined Kamloops as general manager in April, 2008, moving over from the Giants, where he was assistant coach to Don Hay and assistant GM to his brother, Scott Bonner.
Last year, leading up to the trade deadline, Vancouver sent left winger Kale Kessy to Kamloops for right winger Rob Trzonkowski and a 2015 fifth-round pick.
