Veteran defenceman Brett Kulak had a goal and two assists to help the Vancouver Giants to a 5-1 win over the Kamloops Blazers at the Pacific Coliseum Friday night.
Kulak, a Calgary Flames prospect, made a nifty feed from the left face-off circle to Tim Traber in front of the net on the rush for the opening goal at 2:20 of the first period and then teamed with Carter Popoff to set up Ty Ronning in front at 0:47 of the third that made it 3-0. He snuck in from the point to the right face-off circle and one-timed home a Cain Franson feed at 4:05 of the third to make it 4-0.
Alec Baer and Dalton Thrower had the other goals for the Giants. Payton Lee made 23 saves. He lost his shutout with 8:25 to go when Aspen Sterzer hammered home a puck from in close.
The Giants (2-7-1-1) were playing their first home game since Sept. 27 and recorded their first victory in nine starts. The Blazers (4-8-0-0) came with wins in their past two games.
Veterans Franson and Travis McEvoy returned to the line-up from injury. Dalton Sward remained sidelined.
